The short version
The Hub runs on your computer and keeps your data there. A server exists so your devices can stay in sync and so introductions can be found between people on The Hub. It holds what those two jobs need and nothing more. We do not sell data, we do not show advertising, and we do not read your messages.
What the app reads on your Mac
Only what you connect, and only with the permission macOS asks you for:
- Contacts: names, emails, phone numbers, companies, birthdays and the other fields on a card.
- Messages: who you exchanged messages with and on which days. The text of messages is never read into The Hub.
- Phone and FaceTime: who you called, when, and for how long.
- Calendar: events, their times and their attendees.
- Mail: who you wrote to and heard from, when, and the subject line. Message bodies are not stored.
- Files you import: CSV, vCard, LinkedIn connection exports and calendar files you choose.
You can disconnect any source at any time in Settings. Disconnecting stops the reading; the people already in The Hub stay until you remove them.
What is stored on your computer
Everything above, in a database inside your user account's application support folder. It is yours: you can export it, and deleting the app's data removes it.
What is stored on the server
- Your account: email address, display name, and the devices you signed in from.
- Your people, notes, groups, reminders and reconnect settings, so your other devices can show them.
- The needs and offers you write down, with the visibility you chose for each.
- A record of who you were in touch with and when, so your other devices can show it. Never the content of a message or an email.
- Introductions: the matches found for you, what you decided about them, and the invitations you sent.
The server is operated by us in the United States. Backups of the server are kept for fourteen days.
What The Hub never does
- It never sends a message, an email or an invitation on your behalf. Every link is one you pass on yourself.
- It never shows one person's needs or offers to another person without a decision you made in the app.
- It never sells, rents or shares your data with third parties for their own purposes.
Third parties
Sign-in codes and invitation emails are delivered by an email delivery provider, which sees the address and the message. If you connect Google or Microsoft accounts, The Hub reads them with the permissions you grant and you can revoke that access from your Google or Microsoft account at any time. Optional features that use a language model send only the text needed for that request and nothing is retained by the provider for training.
Your choices
- Set the visibility of each need and offer: private, your connections, or the network.
- Disconnect any source from Settings.
- Export your data from Settings.
- Delete your account from Settings. The server removes your account, your synced data, your needs, offers, matches and messages. Data on your own devices stays until you remove it.
